Hello, old friend(s). And welcome!
As a venture to focus more on myself this coming year, I've decided (or more like, am attempting) to separate/distance myself from social media, mainly Instagram, for the time being. While I cannot say my mind has become ‘addicted’ to social media platforms lately, they have become a noticeable distraction & nuisance from the projects and future goals I’d love to focus on. One of those projects being, this jovial little newsletter.
During the few years I lived/worked in Ukraine, my mind was consumed by thoughts and inquiries in the grander existential picture of the brewing industry. I soon longed for a place to exhibit my opinions/perceptions. With a little time & research dedicated to learning Wordpress, my ‘It’s Breakfast For Dinner’ blog emerged. While my aspirations & dreams for IBFD fell to the wayside once the pandemic hit, I figured revamping the idea would be a healthy outlet for myself, given the past year I’ve experienced. As an added bonus, it’s a manner of keeping indirectly in touch with everyone simultaneously (because I’m a terrible communicator lately - working on it). Hey, maybe a little community can be formed through this, who knows! Â
Alternatively, this time around, I’ll be undertaking a different format. While the notion of a proper resurrection of IBFD from the dead has crossed my brainbox… For the time being, I would love to commence with compact bites that are effortlessly digestible for the reader (and easier to produce, for myself). An email newsletter felt like the best strategy to accomplish this feat, and thus here we are.
For purely mental motivational efforts, it would dearly mean the world to me if you subscribed. Just be acutely aware, Substack will direct you to a page asking for a monthly payment to ‘support’ me. Just select the free option! Do not feel *any* pressure for a paid subscription - just like the lottery, I’m producing/playing this for my own entertainment/mental clarity purposes only.
Anyway. Thank you, from the bottom of my periodically sentimental heart. I’m not precisely sure what will come of this entire idea, but my sole expectation is pure distraction, respite, and of course, lots of fun.
Cornelius
PS: While compiling/writing this post, I enjoyed the companionship of the band Mammal Hands (more specifically, their album Shadow Work), the podcast Ologies (more specifically, the Discard Anthropology (GARBAGE) episode), and the word ‘aberration’ (A departure from the normal).
